“With almost 800 trials waiting to be heard, there is now an unacceptable number waiting to take place at Paisley Sheriff Court. “The government needs to come up with urgent and innovative action in order to drive these numbers down. “For all those victims, accused and witnesses, waiting is only going to put more stress on them before their day in court. “While there was a dip in the backlog before the pandemic, we have seen only at the start of last year that figures were drastically lower than they are now at the sheriff court.” Last month the chief executive of SCTS, Eric McQueen, revealed the backlog of sheriff court cases in Scotland could take a decade to clear without extra capacity being created.The Scottish Government has said.
