Caitlyn Marie Jenner (born William Bruce Jenner; October 28, 1949) is an American television personality and retired Olympic gold medal–winning decathlete.
Jenner played college football for the Graceland Yellowjackets before incurring a knee injury that required surgery. Convinced by Olympic decathlete Jack Parker's coach, L. D. Weldon, to try the decathlon, Jenner won the men's decathlon event at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, setting a third successive world record and gaining fame as "an all-American hero".
Given the unofficial title of "world's greatest athlete", Jenner established a career in television, film, writing, auto racing, business, and as a Playgirl cover model.
Caitlyn Jenner shared an epic throwback photo on Saturday as she marked 46 years since her historic Olympic gold medal.The retired athlete, 72, shared a picture of herself, pre-transition, crossing the finishing line during a running event with a determined look on her face at the 1976 Olympic Games, which were held in Montreal, Canada.Jenner competed in the decathlon, setting a new world record in the process as she scored 8,618 points over the 10 challenging events, which include 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m, 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m.The record – which stood for four years – was her third successive global one and launched her to a new level of fame.‘July 30 1976!’ she captioned the snap on social media, adding: ‘I can’t believe it’s been 46 years since my Olympic win!
