At least 21 people have been killed after a bus smashed onto a railway track near Venice, in Italy, this evening. Two children are understood to be among those who have tragically died after a bus full of passengers veered off the road and plummeted onto the railway line.
A major emergency response has been declared, with the mayor describing the incident as an "apocalyptic scene". The bus ended up on its roof after falling at least 10 metres from an elevated section of a major link road in Mestre, the Mirror reports.
Mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro has said "at least are 21 dead, a huge tragedy" as emergency services deal with the crash. It is believed dozens more are seriously injured.
