Priceless artworks gifted to the people of Bury will be protected after a museum was granted almost £600,000 for urgent repairs.
Last month Bury Art Museum and Sculpture Centre warned that paintings and other works were at risk of being damaged by water passing through the leaky roof.
Now the centre has won £589,545 to carry out the essential building works which will help to protect the precious artefacts.
The money, awarded under the government’s Cultural Investment Fund, will pay to repair and renew rooflights, guttering and rainwater pipes, as well as internal repairs to plasterwork.
