Burglar tried to break into several houses in hour-long spree

A burglar tried to break into several houses before he was chased by a homeowner and disturbed by a dog in Wigan. David Keith Simpson, who eventually gained access to a house in Ince, had also tried to break into a number of other homes within the space of an hour at around 6am on May 17.

Simpson, 43, of Kendal Road, Ince, also broke a small window, tried several door handles and entered a garden to one of the properties before his plans were thwarted and he was chased off by one homeowner and disturbed by a dog at another. The homeowners were later notified that their cards were being used in purchases at a number of local shops. Police launched an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage from the stores and doorbell footage from the same morning, leading to Simpson being arrested.

Appearing at Bolton Crown Court on August 11, he received 48 months imprisonment for one burglary, five counts of attempted burglaries and two counts of fraud.
