A bungling burglar was nabbed after he left his phone containing selfies and photos of his passport at the scene of the crime.
While Wayne Elliott left behind evidence of his crimes at two different flats. Before failing to burgle the first flat, he had ransacked another - leaving an open can of Budweiser with his DNA on it the sink.
Newcastle Crown Court heard Elliott, 43, left the first flat when confronted by the vulnerable homeowner, who uses a walking stick to help with her mobility problems, Chronicle Live reports.
It was only after the burglar had escaped through a bedroom window that the victim realised he had stolen nothing but had left the incriminating property behind.
