British holidaymakers have been urged to check their passports on Monday - dubbed 'passport renewal day'. It comes after the Home Office warned of 10-week waiting times ahead of the busy summer holiday season.
Four and a half million British tourists could be at risk of putting their travel plans in jeopardy due to not having a valid passport by the time they depart as a result of the lengthy delays.
Monday, May 9 is the last date for a 10-week passport renewal for those wanting to jet away on July 18 - the week many schools in England and Wales start to break up for summer.
Bosses at Co-op Travel said demand for insurance has doubled in recent months, as the firm warned passengers to check their documents.
