Brits will hopefully be in the middle of a "happy and free summer" in six months' time, Matt Hancock claimed today. The Health Secretary warned "we’re going to have a tough few months" before lockdown can be eased in England.
And he refused to put a date on when restrictions can start to lift - with schools not due to open until at least March 8. But he struck a rare optimistic note when asked how Britain will look at the start of the school summer holidays.
He told regional TV show BBC Politics East: "In six months we'll be in the middle of, I hope, a happy and free Great British summer." It comes despite Cabinet minister Liz Truss saying - half an hour later - that it was "far too early" to know if Brits will be able to go on summer
