Holidays could be off the cards this year at home or abroad, the Transport Secretary has suggested. Grant Shapps cast doubt on whether Brits could even enjoy a break in Cornwall or the Lake District this summer, amid concerns about the impact of new variants on the efficacy of vaccines.
The senior Tory also warned people not to book holidays at the moment, insisting it was "too soon" for people to make plans.
His comments come only days after Health Secretary Matt Hancock said he hoped the public could enjoy a "great British summer".
