Britney Spears is finally getting the biopic treatment. Universal Pictures said it has secured the rights to a film based on the pop star’s best-selling 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me,” according to People.The movie will be directed by Jon M.
Chu, who helmed “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Wicked,” which comes out later this year.Chu, 44, confirmed the news by reposting an article about the biopic on X.Marc Platt is producing the film.
Platt, 67, has produced “La La Land,” “Cruella,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Babylon,” “The Little Mermaid” and more. He’s also a producer on “Wicked.”There haven’t been any casting announcements.Spears, 42, teased the movie about her life on X on Monday.“Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt.
He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned,” she tweeted.According to Variety, Universal won the rights to Spears’ book in a highly competitive auction.The Ankler reported that the deal was worth eight figures and involved obtaining the rights to Spears’ music catalog.Shonda Rhimes, Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B, and Margot Robbie were reportedly interested in the biopic.
