A British woman died following complications from a 'Brazilian butt lift'. Melissa Kerr, 31, travelled to a private hospital in Istanbul for the procedure, according to Norfolk's senior coroner Jacqueline Lake.
However, she was only given 'limited information regarding the risks and mortality rate' associated. Ms Kerr died on November 19, 2022 at the Medicana Kadikoy hospital on the day of the procedure which involves harvesting fat from different parts of the body and injecting it into the buttocks.
The fat entered a vein before moving and blocking her pulmonary artery, with her cause of death being recorded as a pulmonary thromboembolism. He added that it is 'quite possible' that if Ms Kerr was properly made aware of the risks 'before she was financially committed to proceed, she would not have done'.
