Ofcom has revealed that more than 4,000 complaints were made in response to actress Adjoa Andoh's comments during the ITV broadcast of the Coronation.
The Bridgerton star, 60, was part of the commentary team on May 6 and remarked: "Looking at all those young people, there is a bit of me that has gone from the rich diversity of the Abbey to the terribly white balcony, I'm very struck by that." The actress was commentating on the historic event alongside hosts Tom Bradby and Julie Etchingham when the comment was made.The 4165 complaints about the comment have made ITV's Coronation coverage the UK's most complained about program of 2023 so far.
Ofcom is currently evaluating the complaints against their broadcasting guidelines before deciding whether or not to launch an investigation.
Netflix star Adjoa has since been featured on BBC Radio 4 where she addressed her comment with host Paddy O'Connell. Adjoah said: "I think I upset a few people yesterday. "I was talking about the day and how marvellous it was and then looking at the balcony at the end and suddenly going: 'Oh it's so white!' because the day had been so mixed and I didn't mean to upset anybody."
