Bradley Walsh: ‘I performed at The Royal Variety 30 years ago – now I’m the host’
ok.co.ukThe Royal Variety is one of the biggest nights in showbiz with comedians, singers, illusionists and more all set to dazzle us as they take to the stage.The Royal Variety Performance is now in its 95th year, and while Bradley Walsh has performed at the event many times, this will be his first time as its host. “Thirty years ago, that was my first time performing at The Royal Variety Performance,” says Bradley, 63.
I was very, very nervous back then, but I’m so looking forward to hosting this year. At my first Royal Variety show I met Cilla Black and I did eight minutes on stage." "I also performed in 1993 when the Bee Gees were on the bill and myself, Darren Day and Joe Pasquale were in the newcomers’ slot," continues Bradley. "I shared a dressing room with [Joe] Pasquale, Darren Day, Brian Conley and Shane Richie, so all the young lads were together.
It was great fun.” As for what we can expect this year, Bradley teases acts from superstar Cher to entertainer Derren Brown, stand-up star Tom Allen and Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham. “Lots of music, lots of comedy, amazing theatre and some speciality performances as well,” he explains. “Big stars, big names and that’s what it’s all about.
We do it all for the Royal Variety charity, which is really great.” This year, the Prince and Princess of Wales will be in attendance at the Royal Albert Hall, as well as Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden.
