A boy of 17 who died after falling into a river while canoeing has been named. An inquest has been opened into the death of Joseph Holt.
Police and firefighters were called to reports of a boy who had got into trouble in the River Croal, off Raikes Lane, Bolton, at about 8pm on April 9.
A 17-year-old boy was pulled from the water but later died in hospital. Today the teenager was named as Joseph Holt as an inquest into the death was opened at Bolton Coroners' Court on Thursday afternoon.
