Millions of people in England face a ban on family gatherings until as late as Easter, Boris Johnson warned tonight. The Prime Minister addressed the nation after unveiling a new, stricter tier-three lockdown system that will cover all of England from March 2.
Apart from a short break over Christmas, the rules will have legal force until the end of March. That's a few days before Easter on April 4 - despite breakthroughs on vaccines and promises on mass-testing.
The tiers will allow England to come out of a national lockdown and will see gyms, hairdressers, non-essential shops and many pubs and restaurants reopen.
