Boris Johnson has confirmed England will be placed under a new three-tier lockdown at the start of December - with measures due to run until March.
New tiered restrictions will come into force across the country at 00.01 on December 2 when the four-week national lockdown ends.
Areas will be labelled from Tier 1 to 3 but the new tiers system will be tougher than before, as scientists said the old rules were not strict enough to curb the spread of the virus.
In a speech to Parliament, the Prime Minister said the "scientific cavalry" was on its way and by Spring, scientific advances will have made the concept of lockdown "redundant".
