Boris Johnson has dramatically agreed to resign as Prime Minister having presided over months of scandal and one of the most tumultuous premierships of modern times.
Johnson, who became Prime Minister in 2019, was forced out after the resignation of two cabinet Ministers and the loss of support of the parliamentary party.

Having voiced defiance at a bruising Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday, Johnson vowed to "hang on in there" as Tory support ebbed away.His political spokeswoman said that the Prime Minister would stay to fight and win a second vote of confidence being threatened by the backbench 1922 committee.But with the government facing death by a thousand cuts, senior Tories sought to shortcut the process with Johnson's last friend in cabinet, Scot Michael Gove, reportedly telling him privately that it was time to go.A delegation of senior cabinet Ministers, including replacement chancellor Nadin Zahawi, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps and Northern Irish Secretary Brandon Lewis, confronted Johnson in Downing Street to tell him to leave with dignity or face being forced out.They told the Prime Minister he had lost the confidence of his party after 33 MPs resigned from the government in 23 hours.
