The couple plan to have a larger celebration with friends and family next summer, a statement said. Due to coronavirus rules, only 30 people were allowed to attend the wedding at Westminster Cathedral.
Mr Johnson becomes the first Prime Minister to be married while in office since 1822. Ms Symonds is a former Conservative Party communications chief and worked with Mr Johnson while he was Mayor of London.
