Boots has announced it's planning on closing hundreds of stores in the UK, with some set to shut their doors over the coming weeks. The high street retailer is joining the likes of Wilko and Next, shutting down stores due to difficult trading environments.

The total number of Boots stores in the UK will drop from 2,200 to 1,900, with plans to close stores that are nearby to other ones.Despite this move, Boots has said there will be no redundancies, and workers will instead be moved to different shops. But the Mirror reports that the reason six of the stores were closing was because they were not expected to reach financial targets.Speaking earlier this year, a Boots spokeswoman said: “Evolving the store estate in this way allows Boots to concentrate its team members where they are needed and focus investment more acutely in individual stores with the ambition of consistently delivering an excellent and reliable service in a fresh and up-to-date environment.” Here is the full known list of stores that are set to close: Windhill Road, Wakefield - October 6 Upper Warrengate, Wakefield - October 7Glastonbury - October 13Uppingham Road, Leicester - October 13Kings Square, York - October 28Warminster - October 28Guildford Road, Woking - end of OctoberGorleston, Great Yarmouth - NovemberHigh Row, Darlington - November 3Mudge Way, Plymouth - November 18Mount Pleasant, Exeter - November 18Front Street, Prudhoe - no dateLurgan - no dateMeanwhile, Next has also announced it will be closing 11 stores this year.
