Bomb squad officers carried out a major operation in a quiet suburb of Glasgow this afternoon, following an alleged disturbance nearby on Thursday evening.
Police officers roped off a large area of Malletsheugh Road in Newton Mearns, which has been closed at both ends by police vehicles.Images taken further up the road show the presence of a Royal Navy Bomb Disposal team, a Scottish Ambulance Service incident response unit, a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service vehicle and various police cars, as well as a mobile wellbeing unit.Portaloos have been provided at the site, suggesting officers may be there for some time.
It is understood that families have been evacuated from the immediate area and Police Scotland insisted there was "no ongoing threat to the public".It follows an arrest nearby during an alleged disturbance on Thursday evening.
East Renfrewshire provost Mary Montague represents families in the area. She said: “I have been informed homes have been evacuated.
