Wanderers boss Evatt believes a deal is 'not a million miles away'. Lee has been a free agent since the summer after he departed Championship side Sheffield Wednesday. He spent eight years at Hillsborough and played more than 200 times for the Owls in that time, scoring 22 goals.
For the deal to happen, Evatt believes that there may have to be some outgoings at Wanderers to make room for Lee within the salary cap, with Bolton and other clubs in League Two restricted to a spend of £1.5m per season on player wages.
He said: “We are progressing and it is not a million miles away.“As I say, because of the salary cap and where we are at, I want this club to be sustainable.“We are currently working on what funds we can make available by moving.
