direct to your inboxFashion giant H&M has closed its store at Stockport’s Peel Centre despite pledging its ‘commitment’ to the town last year.The top retailer says the decision is part of its long term strategy to ensure customers are offered ‘the best possible shopping experience in the right locations’.It comes after landlord Peel was granted permission to divide the Great Portwood Street store up into three smaller shops - which would also be able to sell food.The property firm said this was to ensure ‘flexibility’ as H&M’s lease was coming to an end - although the two parties were at that point in negotiations.H&M indicated it was hoping to reach a ‘positive agreement’ over the lease and stressed it was ‘committed’ to staying in.
