A black civil rights activist said he suffered a concussion and had some of his hair ripped out when a group of white men attempted to lynch him.
The FBI is investigating a hate-crime report lodged by Vauhxx Booker in relation to the alleged attack on him in an Indiana park on Saturday, July 4.
The Monroe County Human Rights Commission member said one of the men shouted "get a noose" as they viciously beat him and used racial slurs, while telling bystanders to walk away.
Mr Booker, 36, was at the public Lake Monroe park, near Bloomington, with white friends when a man wearing a cap emblazoned with the Confederate flag accused them of trespassing.
