Right Rev. Mariann Budde, the Episcopal bishop of Washington, delivered a plea to President Donald Trump while giving a sermon at the Service of Prayer for the Nation. Budde directly addressed Trump while he sat in the front row with wife Melania Trump, Vice President J.D.

Vance, and second lady Usha Vance on Tuesday morning (January 21) at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

At the end of her sermon, Budde addressed Trump‘s own remarks that he was “saved by God” to be the president again. “Millions have put their trust in you.

As you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” she said. “There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in both Democratic, Republican and independent families.
