Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is the 45th and current president of the United States. Before entering politics, he was a businessman and television personality. Trump was born and raised in the New York City borough of Queens, and received a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School. He took charge of his family's real-estate business in 1971, renamed it The Trump Organization, and expanded its operations from Queens and Brooklyn into Manhattan.

The company built or renovated skyscrapers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses. Trump later started various side ventures, mostly by licensing his name. He owned the Miss Universe and Miss USA beauty pageants from 1996 to 2015, and produced and hosted The Apprentice, a reality television show, from 2003 to 2015. Forbes estimates his net worth to be $3.1 billion.

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. (born November 20, 1942) is an American politician who served as the 47th vice president of the United States from 2009 to 2017 and represented Delaware in the U.S. Senate from 1973 to 2009. A member of the Democratic Party, Biden is the presumptive Democratic nominee for president in the 2020 election. He unsuccessfully sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988 and in 2008.

Biden has been a success but his day has finally come

Joe Biden will go down in history as one of the most important US presidents since World War II. The veteran Democrat did the world a favour by toppling autocrat Donald Trump from the White House.Trump is a demagogue and unseating him after such a disgraceful four years in office was wonderful.But Biden has also been a success in office.The Inflation Reduction Act lowered healthcare costs for families and set the foundations for turning the US into a clean energy superpower.Legislation controlling gun violence was passed and Biden handled the Covid pandemic far better than Trump.However, Biden’s age was always going to be an issue if he stood for re-election.If he were to stand again, and win, he would be 86 years old at the end of his second term.

His awful debate performance last month against Trump showed his deterioration and why he cannot go for re-election. The Democrats need a candidate who can relentlessly attack Trump over his lies and distortions.They need someone to hold him to account over the January 6 insurrection and his failure to accept the result of the last presidential contest.They need someone who can stand shoulder to shoulder with Nato allies rather than cosy up to Putin.That person is not Biden any more and he should bow out gracefully.He did his country a huge service in 2020 and he can do so again by deferring to a candidate who can beat Trump.It is welcome news that more and more young folk are joining unions.Hopefully the rise of 12 per cent – some 20,000 members – shows young people are becoming more engaged in fighting for their employment rights.The young are often hit by poor working conditions and taken advantage of, with insecure work and low wages.At the same time, many young people
