Trips to the beach could be banned in the next phase of coronavirus lockdown after lifeguards witnessed two deaths on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution has called for access to Britain’s beaches and coastal resorts to be restricted after the tragedies occurred as the weather peaked at the weekend, BirminghamLive reports.

Mark Cowie said thousands are now “flocking to English beaches now lockdown restrictions have been eased” and it is putting both the public and lifeguards at jeopardy.

He said “safety advice and warnings will only go so far” as people are “desperate to enjoy some freedom” after weeks of lockdown.
