Gavin and Stacey star Laura Aikman has shared a response to being probed about the sitcom's long-running fishing trip joke as she spoke out about her return to the show.
As fans know, James Corden and Ruth Jones revealed earlier last year they had reunited to write one more episode of the hit BBC series which has since aired on Christmas Day 2024 (December 25) and saw them reprise their roles as Neil 'Smithy' Smith and Vanessa 'Nessa' Jenkins.
It came after James' character aborted his planned wedding to Sonia, which was the basis of the episode as Gavin and Stacey's families prepared for the big day at the altar.
Speaking about the final episode’s ending, co-writer James has since said in documentary, Gavin and Stacey: A Fond Farwell: "Probably from the first Christmas special that we did, when Dave proposes and Smithy says, ‘Don’t marry him’, from that minute on it felt like they had to end together. "And that’s what he says in this last scene, ‘I know it’s messy and not perfect, but that’s because we’re messy and not perfect,'" before adding that Sonia was brought back as she 'wasn't in people's minds'.
