Gavin and Stacey star Laura Aikman has revealed her mum's five-word response to going viral on social media after her reaction to her daughter's return for the final-ever episode of the sitcom was shared online.

There were jaws on the floor on Christmas Day after minutes went by with Gavin and Stacey fans believing Neil 'Smithy' Smith was preparing to marry Vanessa 'Nessa' Jenkins after her proposal back in 2019.

But in a twist that not even the cast saw coming, Sonia, played by Laura, burst back into viewers' lives during the final ever episode of the BBC One sitcom as it was revealed it was her that Smithy was marrying, five years after fans were left wondering if he accepted Nessa's Christmas proposal.

Star and co-writer James Cordon has since revealed how Sonia's return was kept under wraps, saying that Laura stayed in different hotels to the rest of the cast and set off to work in the middle of the night to avoid being spotted by the press.
