BBC Breakfast presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty interrupted Thursday's programme to announce some tragic "breaking" news.
During the morning broadcast on January 30, they revealed the harrowing details of an aerial disaster where a plane and a helicopter collided over Washington Det Con before both fell into the Potomac River.
The aircraft, which originated from Wichita, Kansas, carried 60 passengers plus four crew members, while the military chopper carried three US Army soldiers. "A plane with more than 65 people on board and a military helicopter has crashed just above Washington, DC, and plunged into the Potomac River," Naga said, delivering the report.
Live footage from the incident in Washington DC was then shown, with North America correspondent Merlyn Thomas ready to provide further updates to the viewers.
