Homeowners who have a mortgage with Barclays can get a one-time payment of £2,000 if they make a single change in their homes. The UK bank is offering customers the cash if they make a green upgrade in their property - which would include getting a heat pump installed. The money will not be classed as a loan or it will not be put down that you have borrowed cash from Barclays.

To be eligible for the Greener Home Reward you simply have to have a mortgage with the company. If you meet the criteria, the bank will provide you with the cash to complete the home improvement. There are other home improvements that many customers will also be eligible under the Greener Home Reward scheme, but the highest amount is for the installation of a heat pump.

At present, conventional boilers are less expensive to buy and run than heat pump, however they are significantly less efficient.

Heat pumps can be cheaper to run, so customers who switch could potentially save hundreds of pounds per year on their energy bills, according to the Express. The pumps work by capturing heat from the air, ground or water and then passing this through a heat exchanger, where energy is then transferred to the water that flows through your radiators or underfloor heating, and to the water stored in hot water cylinders.
