Brent Lang Executive Editor “Back to the Future: The Musical,” a pricey stage adaptation of the beloved sci-fi adventure, is packing up the DeLorean.
The production will have its final Broadway performance on Sunday, January 5, 2025. The musical, which earned mixed reviews from critics, will have played for 18 months at the Winter Garden Theatre, and over 500 performances.
The show’s producers said it has sold $80 million worth of tickets during its New York engagement. It will now move to Germany for the 2025-2026 season.
The closure isn’t surprising. “Back to the Future: The Musical” has struggled to attract crowds. Grosses stalled at $896,423 last week, with the theater playing to 86% capacity.
