Parents all across the country are being urgently asked to stop using a popular baby formula after the manufacturer was forced to recall it over fears it could cause life threatening illnesses such as Meningitis and Sepsis.

Nutramigen baby formula, which is widely used to supplement the diet of infants who suffer from a cow’s milk allergy, has been subject to a recall by manufacturer Reckitt after concerns were raised that it may have been contaminated with Cronobacter sakazakii. The bacteria can cause fever, diarrhoea and in severe cases even death in newborns if it progresses to a more serious illness, with parents advised to stop using the formula immediately if they think they have been affected.

Reckitt made the decision to recall the product after an “isolated overseas sample” tested positive for the bug, and insisted that the current recall was only a “precautionary measure” to ensure the safety of its customers. The recall currently applies to three products as follows: Nutramigen LGG Stage 1 Hypoallergenic Formula 400g - ZL3F7D (best before July 1, 2025) Nutramigen LGG Stage 2 Hypoallergenic Formula 400g - ZL3FAA (best before July 1, 2025) Nutramigen LGG Stage 2 Hypoallergenic Formula 400g - ZL3FDM (best before July 1, 2025) Nutramigen is widely available both with and without a prescription and can typically be purchased in most high street pharmacies or online.

Parents are being advised to stop using the formula immediately and return the items to the pharmacy where they purchased them from, so that Reckitt can investigate the products and conduct a “thorough investigation” to work out if and how the formula may have been contaminated.
