A baby would likely have survived if medics had told her mother to go into hospital in the hours before she was born, an inquest has heard.

Cailyn Willow McAndrew was born prematurely at just 28 weeks at home on March 14, 2023 with the umbilical cord wrapped around her.

Tragically, she would die in hospital roughly an hour-and-a-half later. An inquest into her death today (November 3) heard that her mother, Stephanie, had tried repeatedly — ‘10 times’ — to speak to a medical professional at the Royal Oldham Hospital after waking up that morning with bleeding and abdominal pain.

However, she only got through three times and it was only the third time of answering - nearly eight hours after she had first tried calling and after being told to just 'take two paracetamol' three hours before - that she was advised to go to Royal Oldham.
