A special fundraising event, which has been inspired by an Ayr Rotarian, is to take place next month in Ayrshire. The Ayr Walks For Water event is being pencilled in for Sunday, May 8 and participants are being urged to take part.
The idea comes from long-standing member of the Rotary Club of Ayr, Alex Thomson. Mr Thomson is a veteran of many water projects, including one which involved a Malawian bore hole.Alex came up with the idea of holding a sponsored walk along the promenade in Ayr to raise funds for Aquabox, a Rotarian water charity which provides instantaneous water solutions for disaster areas throughout the world. And a Rotary spokesperson said: “The Ayr Walks For Water event is finally taking place on the Sunday, May 8, but even before one step has been taken, the Aquabox charity has taken Alex’s idea further with other walks scheduled in three other places in 2022, Aquabox’s 30th anniversary year."The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now.Get all the local news in your area – plus features, football news and the latest on the coronavirus crisis – at your fingertips 24/7.The free download features the latest breaking news and exclusive stories while you can customise your page with the sections that matter to you.The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now on iOS and Android.“Clearly we are delighted that others are taking up the idea,” said Alex. “But what we are really looking forward to seeing is the people of Ayr out in force on Sunday, May 8 in this our first year and showing our wee town’s great big heart. “All participants are being invited to raise a minimum of just £30, the cost of one Aquabox family pump.” The event is open to all with very simple pre-registration.
