Ayrshire's popular Cumnock Tryst music festival welcomes “foundational” Creative Scotland funding

Funding from Creative Scotland will be “foundational” to The Cumnock Tryst over the next three years. The classical music festival has brought some of the world’s greatest musicians into local venues, churches and halls over the past decade.Founded by renowned Ayrshire composer James MacMillan and based in the town he grew up in, the festival turns Cumnock into a meeting place for music lovers over four days and nights every autumn.

Last week, it was announced that the tryst would benefit from multi-year funding from Creative Scotland for the first time which will ensure a stable footing over the next three years.

In total, the charity will receive £240,000 over the three years after it was included in the largest portfolio of cultural organisations ever to be supported by Creative Scotland on a multi-year basis.David Lee from The Cumnock Tryst said the funding will allow the festival to continue to grow and be a benefit to the town.

Speaking exclusively to Ayrshire Live, he said: “The funding from Creative Scotland is going to be foundational in helping us to deliver our strategic plan outlined by James MacMillan over the next three years.
