Rail passengers are being warned to expect disruption as emergency repairs take place following Storm Darragh. Work is ongoing to complete repairs to overhead line equipment on the West Coast Mainline, following damage caused by the weekend's wild weather.

Strong winds and heavy rain battered the UK in a devastating storm, which claimed two lives and led to major disruption. Network Rail says some services on the West Coast Mainline are being delayed or cancelled this morning (December 9), as teams carry out repairs in Warwickshire with the railway line between Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent also closed.

The incident is affecting Avanti West Coast services running between London and Greater Manchester, and onwards to Scotland.

It is also affecting London Northwestern Railway services between Stafford and Crewe, and CrossCountry trains connecting Manchester Piccadilly with stations such as Paignton, Bournemouth, Southampton Central, Bristol Temple Meads and Birmingham New Street.
