Ava and David Oyelowo made headlines recently when they claimed members refused to vote for Selma at the Oscars in 2015, following the cast’s support of Eric Garner.Eric died after he was placed in a chokehold during an arrest by a white police officer in New York, in 2014, despite explaining that he ‘couldn’t breathe’.The cast, as well as the director, later attended Selma’s premiere wearing T-shirts bearing the words ‘I can’t breathe’.Ava & David, we hear you.
