Frustrated campaigners have hit out at drivers treating the central reservation of a major Salford road as a 'car park' as authorities slammed the issue as 'unsafe'.

Pictures show rows of cars parking on the raised concrete at the centre of Trinity Way. Campaign groups say it is a daily occurence on the busy road linking Salford with Manchester city centre.

Salford City Council said they had placed 'water filled barriers' around the reservation to stop motorists. But despite this, drivers have started to move the barriers in order to park there. "Parking on the central reservation is really dangerous, drivers will not be expecting cars to dismount the central reservation Into a live lane, the potential for crashes is high," one person replied to a tweet made by Walk Ride Salford on X.

A spokesperson from Salford City Council said: “We put water filled barriers at the central reservation on Trinity Way to prevent parking as it is not safe to access the area for parking. “The barriers are being moved so we are now putting in place a Traffic Regulation Order which will mean enforcement action can take place.”
