Rodri is yet to play this season for Manchester City - but he is in line for his first appearance of the campaign on Sunday.
The midfielder returned last out of his City teammates having won Euro 2024 with Spain, and missed the first two Premier League matches of the season due to minor injuries picked up during the summer.
He was back in the squad against West Ham last week but remained an unused substitute. Rodri served a one-match suspension as Spain drew with Serbia this week, having been punished by UEFA for comments made about Gibraltar during the celebrations after winning the Euros.
And now he could be selected against Switzerland on Sunday, with Spain boss Luis de la Fuente appearing unmoved by any City hopes of protecting the midfielder. "[But] Rodri is perfectly trained and at some point he will have to start playing, either here or with his club. "If we understand that tomorrow [vs Swizterland] he has to start, then he will start without any risk.
