The poignant lyrics reference a child’s car seat that is left unused and the bereaved parents’ journey from blame and pain to acceptance. “I wanted to write a song for folk who have lost a child, whether by miscarriage, stillbirth or in infancy,” Heaton said. “It’s a common occurrence and, for every one story you may hear, there are 20 or 30 left untold. ”A duet with musical partner Jacqui Abbott, Still was inspired by a child lost by friends of Heaton.
A spokesman for the singer said Heaton indicated that the married father-of-three also had personal experience of a miscarriage some time ago.
Dawn French, who has spoken of suffering two miscarriages with former husband Sir Lenny Henry, praised the “beautifully heartbreaking” song, which was also shared on Twitter by Alison Moyet and Jamie Carragher .
