Arsenal find themselves just four points above the relegation zone at Christmas, with the unthinkable scenario of demotion to the Championship even being mooted.
It certainly won’t be the happiest of festive periods for Mikel Arteta and his Gunners stars if they slump to another defeat against Chelsea on Boxing Day, which could leave them just one point above the dreaded drop zone.
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal chiefs are already making contingency plans amid the threat of relegation, inserting reduction clauses into their players’ contracts just in case they are sent packing to the second tier.
The north London club’s current wage bill is understood to be worth around £150million, but that would be slashed if they did indeed go.
