Two men have been arrested after a car hit a bridge and plummeted into a river in Stockport. Police patrolling Bredbury spotted a Renault Clio believed to be on false plates at around 11pm on Monday evening (October 18).

A huge search operation was launched at the River Goyt in Romiley following concerns that a person was in the water. Rescuers spent almost three hours searching the river, but the search was eventually called off after no person was found.
