Archbishop of Canterbury suggests society should be more 'forgiving' of Prince Andrew

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has encouraged British people to be more forgiving – including towards Prince Andrew.

In 2015, Virginia Giuffre alleged that late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, whom Prince Andrew was friends with, forced her to have sex with the now-62 year old Royal when she was 17.

Prince Andrew always claimed his innocence and, following a civil lawsuit in the US, he ended up paying out “millions” to Virginia earlier this year in a financial settlement.

The father-of-two has since lost a handful of prestige titles, including his Freedom of York honour. In 2020, he also stepped down from all his public roles, meaning he’s no longer classed as a working royal.
