Andy Burnham has set out how Greater Manchester will spend £47m it is getting from the government to tackle homelessness. The government announced on Wednesday (December 19) nearly £1bn will be spent next year to help local authorities tackle, reduce and prevent homelessness.
In Greater Manchester, councils will get more than £40m from four government grants alone. The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) will also get nearly £6m, taking the total for the region to around £47m.
Mr Burnham has now set out how this money will be spent - and how a new funding deal will help him prioritise the areas that need it most.
The Labour mayor's A Bed Every Night emergency accommodations scheme will have at least 600 spaces available from April, together with the offer of personalised, wraparound support and dedicated schemes tailored to the needs of women, veterans, people who are LGBTQ+, people with pets, and others experiencing multiple disadvantage.
