The Yorkshire-set drama All Creatures Great and Small returned on Thursday 19 September for its fifth series, and Channel 5 has teased a beloved character’s return in an upcoming episode with a new clip shared on social media. The trailer shows Siegfried Farnham (Samuel West) receiving a telegram at Skeldale House, while Mrs Hall says “We’ll try not to assume the worst.” Then Siegfried is seen in his car looking tense, and we hear the words “I will never utter a cross word to that boy again if he comes home in one piece,” as the camera focuses on a photo of his brother, Tristan, in military uniform. Then comes the moment every fan has been waiting for, as Tristan arrives home at Darrowby train station and hugs Siegfried.
Channel 5 commented on the post, saying: “The wait is finally over. A beloved face returns to Darrowby in what might just be the biggest tearjerker moment yet.” Fans were quick to show their joy, with one writing “About time!” while another commented: “I’m really looking forward to this episode,” followed by a heart emoji.
Another simply wrote “Tristan” and a heart.Tristan, played by Callum Woodhouse, appeared in the first three series of the veterinary drama, but did not appear in series four, which was set during the spring of 1940.
His absence was explained by Tristan signing up for the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, a storyline that also featured in James Herriot’s famous books on which the series is based.
