Alex Scott, 37, has broken down as she spoke about the alarming social media abuse she received after she was inaccurately named the new host of A Question of Sport. The BBC presenter admitted that she was "scared for [her] life", which led her to turn to alcohol.Alex regularly opens up about her personal life and the effect working on TV has on her own mental health. In a new interview as she prepares to release her autobiography, the star opened up about a time when she nearly gave up.This comes as the presenter was met with alarming social media hate last year when she was named as the new host for A Question of Sport, replacing Sue Barker. This was however inaccurate, with Paddy McGuinness taking the role. She told The Times: "That was at a level that I was scared for my life."I was scared to leave my house to even go to the shop. That's the stage that we'd got to - that, oh my gosh, someone black might be replacing a national treasure could cause such hatred."The former professional footballer then turned to drink for a period to ease the pain. This is not the first time she has opened up about her relationship with alcohol.Alex said in an interview earlier this year: “When I retired, getting trolled, I found that I was turning to drink to try and hide everything, hide what I was feeling."Looking at my daily life, many would wonder how I could be ‘depressed’.

But mental illness doesn’t work like that."It’s so easy to think there are people worse off than us and we have no right to feel sorry for ourselves.

But that thought process alone can be really dangerous, and lead to bigger problems."I didn’t tell anyone, I didn’t tell my mum because I didn’t want her to worry or put that stress on her.
