The One Show's Alex Jones has said it's a "shame" that Will Smith's outburst at the Oscars has "overshadowed" the other winners.

The Hollywood actor made headlines around the world when he stormed on stage and slapped Chris Rock after the comedian made a crack about Will's wife Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head and said he couldn't wait for the film GI Jane 2.

Pacing back to his seat, Will yelled at Chris: "Keep my wife's name out of your f****** mouth."Discussing the incident on The One Show, Alex said she thought the whole thing had stolen the winners' thunder a bit."We have to start with last night's Oscars,” she said on Monday's (March 28) episode of the BBC show."The only thing that people have been talking about has been the moment where Will Smith hit Chris Rock about making a joke about his wife.""But the other winners have somewhat been overshadowed as a result, which is a bit of a shame, isn't it?" she went on."Some of the really worthy winners have been overlooked," she said later. Will, 53, has since apologised for the slap, posting a message on Instagram saying that "violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive".The King Richard star said his behaviour was "unacceptable and inexcusable" and explained that the joke following Jada's battle with alopecia was "too much" for him to bear and that he had "reacted emotionally".

Calling himself a "work in progress", the actor said sorry to the Academy, attendees and everyone who had been watching."I would like to publicly apologise to you, Chris," he added."I was out of line and I was wrong.
