AFI Awards Luncheon Postponed Due To L.A. Fires

The Annual AFI Awards luncheon scheduled for Friday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills has been postponed. According to a spokesperson, “Given the tragedies that prevail in Los Angeles, the spirit of community we strive for at AFI AWARDS will be unachievable on Friday – and so we will be postponing the event.” No other details have yet been provided.

This joins a growing list of awards season events affected by the tragic fires across Los Angeles. Several other events including Thursday’s American Cinematheque Tribute To The Crafts at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, Friday’s Universal party with Donna Langley at Sunset Tower, the BAFTA Tea on Saturday at the Four Seasons as well as that night’s AARP Movies For Grownups Awards, and the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica could also be affected but no official word yet on any of them.

The awards event always considered to be a highlight of the awards season draws the filmmakers and stars of the year’s Top 10 Best Films and Top 10 Best Television Programs as voted by a specially selected jury for the American Film Institute.
