East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy insists he is looking forward to facing Airdrieonians more than he is their glamour game with Aberdeen in the Premier Sports League Cup next month.Lowland League champions Kilby were handed one of the toughest draws in the group stage of the competition after being drawn alongside the Premiership side, as well as Championship title hopefuls Airdrie and League One duo Dumbarton and Queen of the South. The club are away to the Diamonds on Tuesday, July 13 before hosting the Dons at K-Park the following Saturday.
But Kennedy is so full of admiration for how Airdrie player/boss Rhys McCabe sets out his side that he is relishing that encounter and reckons it will be a feast for the eyes.He said: “It is the most difficult group we could have got and the one I’m really looking forward to is the Airdrie game.
I’m a big admirer of Rhys McCabe and how they play as well. They have similar beliefs to us in terms of how they play, so I think that will be a really good football spectacle against a really well-supported local club.“Airdrie won the SPFL Trust Trophy last season and had a good run in this cup as well so we know how tough it will be.
I’m just really looking forward to it. It excites me. As a coach it is challenging mentally and it will be interesting to see how we do against all these teams.
