Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.
He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.
King Charles has arrived at Buckingham Palace as he prepares to lead the royal family on a sombre procession following the late Queen’s coffin as she is taken to lie in state at Westminster Hall .
As he arrived, the new monarch waved to public onlookers, while looking understandably emotional as he continues the preparations for his mother’s funeral.
The late Queen’s coffin arrived at Buckingham Palace last night after making its final journey from Edinburgh, after she passed away at the Scottish royal residence of Balmoral Castle .
The arrival at Buckingham Palace caused emotional scenes at and around the Palace, and the new King was photographed along with his son Prince Harry and daughter-in-law Meghan Markle for the first time since the Queen’s platinum jubilee earlier this year.
